Graduating from mp215

So I have had the mp215 kit on for a few years now and I have almost all the parts for mr230. No downpipe (for Cali Smog reasons) so I went and bought an ap3 (from mountune). Flash it this morning with the "bespoke" tune (basically the only option that mattered was the fmic, so its pretty telling that intake/cbe doesn’t add much with a stock turbo). Anyway, the bump in torque driving to work today was definitely noticeable, not uncontrollable (I dont WOT in LA traffic), but firm. I saw the est torque peak at 265 and peak boost at 22.2. I am waiting for my stratafied tune to come in and then see how that feels.

Subbing to this thread...I have an MP215 myself and am itching for more. Did Mountune work with you at all on AP3 price since you are MP215 customer? I like the MP215 but it kind of sucks that it comes with whats essentially a locked AP3 thats useless. I might get an intercooler and a tune this summer, and do before/after dynos on it here in WI.

No, no price breaks for being an mtune owner. But there is an easy way to get it for 450$ +s&h without a sale going on if you have ordered from them before.

MR230 with 93+ octane (91/100 mix) will net you about 25.4 peak boost. And a-little torque steer.

That torque reading is pretty innaccurate tho some days it will read 250 for me and others 290. Man the car gets a lot louder though to, I have the mbrp exhaust which is already loud but it's definetly picked up a few decibels... The thing roars now

Do you have to get a new AP when you go from the mp215 to the mp230? Can't you just use the same AP with a different tune

So I switched to the Stratafied tune this morning, I know the ecu learning has to run a while but pulling out of my garage there was a definite change in 1st and 2nd. The car seems to jump at the chance to go at part throttle. I have to readjust my pedal habits with this tune or ill get ticketed for sure.
Commute this morning ign corr cyl4 showed -1.55/3.5 (OAR isnt at -1 yet) so there is still some learning to do. peak boost was 23.6 with peak est torque at 259

This morning I switched back to the mountune bespoke tune. It looks like the local gas I get doesn't play well with the stratified tune. Until I can find a better station with better fuel and/or find a safe place to so wot runs to send logs in I'm gonna go back to the mountune programming. With the same tank and switching back to mountune oar is happy as is ign corrections. I was hovering around -. 7 oar with +-3 corrections on cyl 4

So you were able to reflash another tune on top of the MP215 with no issue? Or did you have the dealer uninstall the MP215?

I'm going to chime in with my 2 cents from the peanut gallery.

I suspect that if you have the stock cat, then the MP215 or similar stage 1 style tune is about as good as you're going to get. It's a very docile around-town tune (as you know), but does add some scoot under WOT.

In a state that requires legit SMOG testing like CA, you can't really get around that stock cat.

The MR230 tune seems to want the higher volume/velocity output exhaust offered by an aftermarket cat. I can't comment on any other tunes. However, I believe the MR230 tune suppresses a "ready" signal fault or something (sorry, I'm sure you and others know better what specifically is being done). As a result, the car won't pass emissions tests (whether or not it actually is in violation of CARB emissions thresholds).

I guess that if you're willing to swap the cats back and forth as needed, then you could (as you are doing) overwrite the tunes as needed as well -- putting the CARB-compliant MP215 tune in there every N period of time just before the test and then swapping both tune and cat back after.

I have all the MP215 hardware, the FMIC, the mountune induction hose, their replacement cat, a replacement lower charge pipe, and the MR230 upgraded tune. The car is very well mannered around town but clearly accelerates more assertively (and throughout a higher RPM range) vs. the prior setup. That's what you'd expect since it's a tune that's about adding and holding torque at a higher RPM (so handy for on-track corner exit).

If I had to test every other year, I'd probably would have stuck with the MP215. The cat is a kind of a PITA to get in and out so I would not be the one to do it (translation: more service $$$).

YMMV.
