Hi all.

My name is Aaron and I bought a 2016 Fiesta ST. This is my first Ford, making it the seventh make I have owned (I am not very brand loyal).

My car is a daily driver, and I will be lightly modding, focusing on drivability. It mainly sees city commuting, and my average MPH per tank so far has not broken 25MPH. Which is ironic, considering how much effort I put into raising this number.

I am a lifelong rally fan, which is what mainly brought me to the platform. I have both spectated and volunteered at rallies, and I like to watch rallycross and drifting events as well.

Is it your first stick? What's your commute like? Do you have traffic is it long or short? I get 31 mpg in 60/40(hwy/city) driving. Key is to keep rpms down. Go from 1st to 2nd to 4th to 6th. Above 40 you can be in 6th for better mileage. Stay below 2.2k rpms and mpg should be close to 30.

25 MPH average, not MPG. And that is actually high, I reset the average MPH every tank and my last one was only 20 MPH, my commute is horrible hah But yeah, my MPG is awful due to stop and go commute plus my insatiable appetite for boost. I am learning to keep the revs down when in cruise mode, but it is really hard. It's like I am just cruising along and traffic opens up my left foot has a mind of it's own... whoops, now I am doing a 2nd gear pull to redline!

I am not too worried about MPG tho, second and third gear rips are totally worth the price of admission in this car.

You want a higher ave speed. That's not mph(or miles per hour) that is speed average over the time with the car. My ave speed was 30 and just recently went to 31, 3 months traveling back roads for 50 miles at a time helped.

The ave speed means nothing. Why do you care if it's higher or lower?

Because it directly relates to how much time I spend in traffic therefore it is the most important metric of them all

WELCOME and CONGRATS!!

Fellow rally fan here as well, especially the various Ford rally machines through the years.
I also used to work/volunteer on all of the east coast SCCA Pro Rallies, but have not done so since the Rally America takeover in 2005.
I plan on starting again this coming year, depending upon my situation.

Is that a Mk.2 Escort BDA, on (I'm guessing here), a stage of the Monte, in your avatar?

It is a Mk.2, but I believe this shot was from Rally Portugal 1982, and the driver is Mario Silva.

My local national rallies (Olympus and Oregon Trail) have switched over to the new American Rally Association sanctioning body, and it being a non-profit gives me renewed interest in working a rally again. Plus marshals get great views!

Yes, the good old Group 4 days, when Ford was a dominant factor in the WRC!

Agreed on the views the stage workers get (I usually worked the actual flying finish)!

Were you old enough, (or into it back then) to catch the Olympus when it was on the WRC calendar back during those two Group B years??

That would have been awesome, but no I would have been a half-pint in that era. Started watching WRC in the late 90s, the year Toyota came back from their infamous ban. The only reason I remember it so well is because of how ugly I thought that EU spec bug-eyed Corolla was.

HA! I remember that turbo inlet restrictor bypass scandal, and resultant ban from the WRC, because it validated my thoughts that the Nippon Giant will do ANYTHING to win, including blatant (but yes, very cleverly engineered) CHEATING!

Not to mention the many multi-million$$ more than anyone else that they will throw at their racing/rallying programs (just as I'm SURE they will 'buy' Seb Ogier next year, NO MATTER the cost, to assure wins right out of the gate in WRC).
