MP215 to Protune/OTS Flash... Safe?

My car currently has the MP215 flash on it and I am contemplating getting an AP and a custom tune or run an OTS tune. As the title suggests, I am wondering if it is safe to reflash it with a protune/OTS tune or if I need to have the dealer revert it back to stock prior to doing this. Someone had mentioned in a different thread that you could brick the ECU by doing this as they run different firmware and I wanted to get feedback from anyone who has done this or is more knowledgeable on the subject than me.

The dealer holds the key to reverting it back to stock with mountune AP tunes. It is the reason why I never went that route is you couldn't go back without their help.

I understand that the dealer is the only one who can revert it back to stock. My question is whether or not this is necessary or recommended before flashing another tune.
