Poor dyno run Mountune MR230

So will find out tomorrow when they look at my turbo elbow if there are any air leaks from there and they are going to put a liquid gasket on it as it didnt come with one.

Side note, here is part of the email from mountune.......

It is possible you could have an air leak which is reducing your power, so this would be something you should investigate.



Regardless, there is likely to be a deviation in the 230ps peak figure we'd normally expect you to see from our MR230 upgrade due to the non-mountune hardware set you have fitted.


Our upgrades are always developed using our own specified hardware package in conjunction with our software. We optimise the software to take advantage of the hardware. This way, when a customer has the correct mountune hardware fitted, you can expect your car to see the same power output (within a tolerance) that we claim for the kit. If you are using unrecognised hardware, the calibration will not be optimised, and therefore you are likely to see a lower power output. You could also introduce driveability issues or faults."

I wouldn't think my mods would make much of a difference?

Only main difference is my 2.25 exhaust rather than a 2.5.

I like the current size as i dont get any drone whatsoever.

I'm not going to bet my life on it, but I really do feel like the dyno results you got was incorrect. The math doesn't make sense. As I said before a dyno results without the RPMs at where the power was at is worthless.

That torque number of 406 is 330 at the wheels am i correct? Which isnt far off the claimed 340nm given it was 32 degrees in that shed

Stock exhaust isn’t causing any of your issues. Their just saying non mountune parts are not optimal for our tune but you should see relative numbers. Boost leak is looking to be your problem

Depends on if you’ve worked on them recently, if it were me I would check the entire intake track (from the air filter to the throttle body including your blow off valve/diverter valve)

If he had a boost leak it would not have made that kind of torque. We get the high torque from the instant spool / boost that our tiny turbos put out. If he was leaking boost it would not be as high.

406nm equals 300 lb of torque.
330 lb of torque equals 448nm
A dyno doesn't measure horsepower they measure torque and use a formula to calculate horsepower.

If he had a boost leak it would not have made that kind of torque. We get the high torque from the instant spool / boost that our tiny turbos put out. If he was leaking boost it would not be as high.
21 lbs is lower than his tune is set to, and his afr drops way to low at 10.5 indicating to me he’s loosing metered air.

I was just going to say that Mountune is pretty much wrong about the mods: this car has such a small and air volume limited turbo that the exhaust is not going to matter, the stock exhaust can handle the volume that turbo creates even maxed out at 26 psi, so most likely there is a leak somewhere... it holds until 21 psi, so you get the torque on the low end but where you see the AFR go rich, so likely that is where the pressure is then blowing past the leak, so you don't get the power in the upper RPM's, which is rated in HP... And no, unless the elbow is straight out defective and doesn't have smooth surface then adding liquid gasket is not going to help. Like I said, I don't have a problem holding over 26psi with my gasket-less Whoosh elbow, in fact, you REALLY don't want any gasket material getting in so it's not really recommended. Just re-check ALL your clamps to start with.

Absolutely, and I do like them overall but with a limited number of models they support you would think they could offer a bit more accurate advise than that...I think it's pretty clear he's getting the torque from the quick spool while holding boost up to 21 psi, but then falls off from there as he can't maintain the full boost called for by the tune, so the HP numbers will definitely be low... guess we'll have to see what he find out, but some good discussion to learn from here!

So elbow etc was all good but one of my rubber boost hoses apparently was completely collapsing under power.

Image of it attached. So im just going to upgrade all the hoses with a kit. Was on the list to do anyway!

They put a sleeve in it in the interim and i reckon third gear pulled better already.

Will have to head back to the dyno later down the track.

Not sure how that's possible with that hose. it would be under pressure while accelerating. If anything that hose tends to expand and or blow off. Well if there is any hose problems that kit should take care of it. Also a good time to upgrade the hose clamps.

Glad you got it sorted I’d even buy some t bolt clamps if you’re replacing your couplers. Mishimoto sells all the sizes you need
