GR Corolla Ownership vs Fiesta ST

it's just a lot more money for the car that i can't afford LOL, is the roofline lower on the GRC than the FiST? it just felt vertically cramped in there compared to my fiesta

the fiesta's interior height is cavernous. Often times I have to remind myself I'm not in an SUV. At most past track events, while on stock ride height, few can match the Fiesta's higher center of gravity. I've never owned a car that quite felt like a crossover.

I would have seriously considered a Yaris.
Too bad we couldn't get them.

I am guessing that it also feels a bit more 'raw' (as stated above) than the GRC, due to it's shorter wheelbase, and lighter weight, with the same power level from the factory.

I looked up the weight and it was 2800lbs. Not really lighter than the FiST.
There apparently is a lighter variant that specifically aims to cut weight.
But I'm not sure what they do to achieve that. Living in the rust belt, more structural meat, (or better metals,) means longer life span.

Right from the factory it has almost 100 more HP than our rides, and with all wheels driven, it has to accelerate quicker (given equally tractive tire compounds), as it has wider tires on top of the AWD.

I wonder what Toy pulls out of/deletes from the Yaris GR for that "Light Weight" version??
(Guessing it is sort of like the "Club Sport" versions of past M3s?)

I think a regular gr yaris is around 2,800ish lbs. What they did to remove 300-400 lbs on an already light car is pretty drastic.

im guessing it has a neutered drivetrain and maybe is fwd. Being a commerically sold vehicle not likely they’re going to be selling you a totally gutted car

According to the interwebs the lightweight version is an RS model, so NA with a CVT 👎👎👎

Yes, but the current regime is now selling citizenships for a cool $1,000,000 a pop, so who TF knows how much they would charge for this said 'free' pass??

In any case, those who compete in U.S. (ARA) rallies with cars like the Rally 2 version of the above (as well as the Skoda Fabia RS R5/Rally 2, Fiesta R5/Rally2, and Hyundai i20 R5/Rally 2 are using that 'temporary import' clause above, since the cars must be registered and have street legal functions (operational; turn signals, lights, horn, flashers, etc.) since they must be driven on public roads with regular traffic and speed limits for the transit stages between the competitive, all-out/high speed special stages.
These cars have catcons on them as delivered from the build facilities (FIA WRC rules demand them), but they are all of the way at the back of the system, right before the tail pipe exit, and are nowhere near DOT/EPA/CARB/etc., legal, nor could they pass any area's noise limit regulations.

I think that the one ARA competitor who had an actual WRC Rally 1 Fiesta (sans paddle shifters, since the ARA does not allow those), Barry McKenna, got tired of shipping his cars back to his home in Ireland every year because of this rule, and just gave up on competing here.

you could buy one in Mexico although I don't really know if you need to be a citizen there or rent an apartment to be able to buy a GR Yaris. From that point onwards, fingers crossed you don't get pulled over and have the car impounded.

damn now i'm starting to really feel bad ending relationship with my partner (mutual agreement) who also had Mexican citizenship.

It makes sense there since that country actually had (recently) a WRC round (based in Guanajuato), and may have one again in the near future, and is a bit more rally savvy/knowledgeable/have more fans of the WRC than this land's populace.

There is talk of, even plans for a WRC round based in Chattanooga, Tennasty next year, but I am not holding my breath for that to happen, given the way things tend to go concerning rallying in this country.

owning a car in england comes with horrific taxes, 20% VAT. as bad as the taxes are in CA, it's nowhere near as awful. Stuff like electricity is bad there, worse than CA. How they're going to manage moving to electric cars, I wish them best of luck. In London, you have ultra draconian speed limits 20-30mph. As bad as it is in CA, it's still paradise compared to england.

I wouldn't want to own a car if I got stuck living there.

I was born and raised there. Lived at home until I left at 17. Came to the States in '86 and have been back for vacations when my parents were alive but never want to go back when I see the state of the country now! Cops are garbage, I used to be one there, murders are on the rise and you can't defend yourself! Lastly taxes are huge as you say. You can't even go into central London unless your car is low emissions! Forgot to add, that's SOCIALISM for you!

Hmm apparently it might be the case the GR Yaris is as expensive as it is in europe due to more punitive emissions standards in europe. Not really sure if Great Britain is following similar standards after Brexit.

I guess this leads to stuff like in the Euro market (if not also UK market) Toyota killing off the GR86/BRZ, Honda stop selling the CTR. Had no idea the Porsche 718 with ICE was out of the picture prior. I guess this explains why some euro manufacturers are opting for 'performance' vehicles like the C63 and M5 coming out with complex plug in hybrid powertrains with outrageous curb weights. the G90 is some 5,390 lbs. The 911 seems to do okay going hybrid, adding some 3-400 lbs.

Very tempted to grab a g87 m2 before the end is nigh.
