ROTA RECCE 17x8 ET40 and NANKANG CR-S 215/40 R17 / Neova AD08R 215/40 R17

Those CR-Ses have an almost identical tread pattern to the dry tarmac rally Pirellis (and Michelins before them!) used on the Rally 1 and Rally 2 cars in the WRC, and on the just completed Monte Carlo rally.

These just came in and will be going on the car tomorrow! OZ Superturismo GT 17x7. Was going for a tarmac rally look, and have always loved OZ wheels. They also remind me of the multispoke wheels you could get on the SVT focus back in the day, but a bit lighter. They are wrapped in General G-MAX AS-07 for now. Depending on how the tires feel, may swap for summers when it gets warmer. But I have read very good things about these General AS-07s (a brand I knew nothing about before trying to shop for tires in our unique size). I also went ahead and ceramic coated two of the wheels, which I will run on the passenger side and see if it makes any difference managing brake dust (or easier cleaning). Have always wondered, and thought this was a good opportunity to test it. Will report back.

I got my BRAID wheels powder coated in gloss black and they're much easier to clean than the matte finish.

Ironically, the tread pattern on those AS-07s is very similar to the non-studded version of the Hankook Winter icept tarmac snow tire used exclusively on the Monte Carlo Rally in the WRC.

I unfortunately did not. After an extended test drive on the new springs, I have to say the ride is quite a bit harsher than stock. I’m gong to see how I get used to it over the next week. But big difference. Turn in is a lot more immediate, but at the cost of ride quality.

I also noticed that torque steer is slightly more prominent now. I assume it’s the change in alignment from the drop. Do our cars have enough adjustability that an alignment shop would be able to bring it back?

Update: while I did not take measurements, here are before and after shots (exact same distance from the car and same angle, so should be able to approximate the drop). The advertised 1" seems about right:

Konig Lockouts in bronze 16x7.5
Konig Dekagrams in Black 16x8

Both photos wearing Kumho PS31s in 205/45R16. Today the Dekagrams have my RT660s (probably RT615Ks later this year as the 660s are getting older) on them and the Lockouts are being used with the PS31s as daily driver tires/wheels. The Dekagrams were just a bit too wide for my tastes, with the narrower PS31s vs the slightly sider RT660s.

Also, what tires are you running?

I’m seriously considering these or the ProRace LT in 16x7. I know the dekas are an inch wider comparatively.

On mine they screw on using the 3 small screw holes you see in the photo. One of the tire guys at discount thought they knocked and damaged one. My lockouts use some kind of standardized 50 something millimeter snap in cap.

I’m seriously considering these or the ProRace LT in 16x7. I know the dekas are an inch wider comparatively.

As Downsy has mentioned, the Dekagrams come with an alloy center cap which is held on by three Allen head screws (but there are two short 'fake' ones threaded into the cap to make a symmetric 5 screws showing) which thread directly into the center section of the wheel itself.

I decided to replace mine with some 316 marine grade stainless Allen screws from McMaster-Carr because; salt soup.

dhminer just elected to leave them off (which yes, looks more 'race car'), and I would possibly do the same except that the treaded holes for the caps then show, once close to the car.

There is a Konig, silver on black center, also aluminum alloy badge 'medallion' which goes into the recess of said center cap, and I have been trying myself to find some ST gel badges of the same size to replace the Konig stickers (I would prefer some M-Sport ones, but they would have to be custom made and just not worth the coin required to do that).

The press in ford ones won’t fit these but they came with center caps. They’re just not permitted for track days. I can measure the konig insert which you might be able to punch out and press the ford one in, but not sure on diameter difference between them.

The relief section for the gel sticker/badge in the center of the Konig cap was just under 49mm when I measured it an hour ago.

So yes, Downsy, those ones from Bulgaria which you posted are made in a size that fits the Konig center caps.

^^^Does that setup rub at all, anywhere under any suspension scenarios??

Do you plan on using any type of mud flaps when doing SCCA RallyCross?
(The front mounts for the Rally Armor ones could potentially rub with those tall rally tires, even if the ride height is raised higher).

Looks GREAT though, and I was considering putting some real gravel rally donuts on my rally working Method MR501VTs, IF there were any more local ARA National Rally events to work/volunteer on anymore, but they are all gone, forever it seems.
Plus, they would just get burned up totally on the 4-8 hour each way highway drives to get to said rallies, so that also made me wary of using them.

 

[Stubborn Approach]

I do not believe they will clear in every suspension scenario without +5 degrees of caster. I have no desire to run mudflaps.

It will be a some time before I use them in a competition environment, it’s starting to cool off and I have some nagging goals on the racetrack.

I’m pretty used to carrying 4 wheels & tools with me to events but when I work media or volunteer at rallys, I just drive my 4runner. Has a roof rack that I can stand on, awning, all the good stuff. I own the FiST to beat on, until I find something else to beat on.
