Locate a 2020 Mustang GT/CS if you can..........let her drive it and I bet like my wife she will want it. Sticker at hair under $50K with every available option, maxed out. (2019)....otd at $42K plus TTL. Mid sixties Y.O. wife loves her rumble mobile and switchable exhaust has never come off med loud setting. $460 HP DOHC and sticks like glue. Leaves my FiST in the dust in the twisties. Shaves her legs and does her nails at 140 mph, LOL!
Sounds like you need to learn how to drive the FiST...

I checked and found depreciation on Kia is lower than GM and same as Honda but higher than Ford
https://www.themoneycalculator.com/vehicle-finance/calculators/car-depreciation-by-make-and-model/

3 year depreciation rate

GM 55%....Honda 50%......Ford.....40% .........Kia.......50%......Lexus........40%.......Hyundai......45%....infiniti......45%....Tesla.......45%.....Toyota and NIssan.....35%
Thats a UK price depreciation calculator. It has no bearing on the American market. Its money value is the pound not the dollar. Things can depreciate differently in different parts of the world.

Here's another one
Each brand is ranked from best to worst in terms of average resale value after three years.

  1. Subaru–48.4%
  2. Toyota–48%
  3. Porsche–46.4%
  4. Chevy–45.9%
  5. Jeep–45%
  6. Honda–43.5%
  7. Ford–42.7%

Once again, projected resale values for each brand vary by the model.
No Hyundai in that list though. However at usedfirst.com, it shows 3 year depreciation for all Kia at 36%.

I cannot stay with 460HP in a car that handles that well. Even with the Mountune MP-215 she walks away coming out of a curve and after about 10 of those she is gone....... And she is no slouch at driving.....only car that would get me out of my FiST is a GT but I would get the 6 speed and still lose to her 10 speed. Her g force is about .94 without PP1 and the Fist is .90. 0-60 is a hair over 4 sec. and my 215 HP is about 6.4 but don't know as I hs never dropped the clutch in first.and slightly less grip was no surprise she walked away from me,

I'm sure every list will be different by a bit but Kia does pretty well......I like a Stinger but no place for one. FiST does DD and grandkid hauler, GT/CS for road trips and wife's DD.

UPDATE

I've spent a few hours watching Matt Maran, Straight Pipes, Demuro and a few other video reviewers on this car. I'm having some deja vu back to 2013-2014 when the best car that most normal people didn't know about but reviewers loved and bought one - the Fiesta ST - came out. Comments and reviews of the Stinger are very similar though it's in a different genre. Pretty much every says the same thing about how great the car is. Even Doug Demuro who is usually very mean and critical said 99% positive things about it...in fact it was dangerously near the very top of his comprehensive all-car "Doug score" chart which I think bothered him as he wrapped up the review.

I found one used in Florida with 10k..."corporate vehicle", $52k sticker price, selling for $34k. Called them and talked to a guy, no strange fees other than about $2k more in dealer fees and delivery fees plus tax tag and title. Says there's nothing wrong with it but it's just too good to be true and I'm not buying a car sign unseen. I'm gonna see how serious my wife is about doing this sooner instead of later and if the dealer will give me the new one for somewhere in the mid 40s I might go for it. That's a big drop so I doubt they will do it but like I always do when it comes to cars I approach it objectively and walk away if I don't get what I ask for. I can't pay $52k for a new one when a barely used one is going for $34k. Maybe I'd meet in the middle, I doubt they'll do that but that will be my litmus test...that and my wife's experience with the car.

If not now, at some point later this will be at the very top of my list for our next 10-year car. I'll say this in closing, I did almost no research and drove the car first, then spent a ton of time researching. Everything the research said couldn't compare me for how nice the car is in person - that's a good sign.

EDIT

I'll add one other thought, I hopped on the Stinger forums and folks asre able to get the GT2 for 5-11% off the MSRP. One guy got the $52k model for $40k flat plus fees. If my dealership will do that I might be driving one home this weekend.

Probably not though, my life is way to conservative and slow for something like that to ever happen.

I know you're obviously going to get the GT model but I did want to mention some changes in the 2020 model year for the 4-cylinder model.
So far the 4-cylinder model has been broke up into 2 categories base and premium.
The premium model adds the premium sound, LED lighting and a whole list of safety features some of us would not want. Not a fan of safety nannies.
The 2020 model year 4 cylinder will now be called the GT line. It will have a more aggressive appearance then the current 4-cylinder model. You will have the option to add the sun and sound package which gives you the LED lighting and premium sound system.
I believe now the only way to get all of the safety features if you really want them is to go to the GT2 level.

Jalonick had had a couple articles not that long ago by resident car buyer Tom that Kia was practically giving Stingers away. Those might all be gone now, but it sounded interesting even though I wasnt even looking for a car.

My only thing about arguing for the 4 pot on the stinger, is that it’s still a heavy car. The weight is going to be the biggest detriment to the city fuel economy, but if you do mostly highway with the car it’d be a good compromise.

Stinger GT is a neat car, have long had my eye on them. Also check the Genesis G70. Same chassis and powertrain, different body. I think the G70 interior is nicer, and it got Motor Trend's car of the year:

Wife has had a Hyundai Tucson for 130k miles. Not a single problem with the car. Hyundai/Kia's reliability is way better than it used to be.

As great as these little FiSTs are, if I had the money, I'd be daily driving a G70 and building a LS powered Foxbody for track duty.

That is a good point. Luckily I don't spend too much time stuck in City traffic, or stop and go.

My #1 concern with the Stinger is depreciation. Korean cars depreciate fast and buying a 50k quickly depreciating car is risky if you are taking out a loan. Imagine totaling the car 1 year into ownership and losing your butt when it comes to the insurance settlement. I am an Insurance Pro with 20+ years in the auto insurance business and seen lots of people get burned. Get gap insurance...
The Stinger is not a typical Korean car, it doesn't have the same level of depreciation, used ones are going for pretty high values! But yes, there are huge incentives on these so you have to make sure you are getting a good deal to minimize your depreciation, then a basic 25% bonus mini-GAP is easy and worth adding to your insurance.

Thanks a lot yeah I totally respect the 4 cyl model it's not shabby at all. For me the GT2 is what I want because it has the options I want - the 360 camera and the automatic hatch open and HUD among others. My wife is the most modest person I've ever met and she's been driving a van for so long, it's time to spoil her. Plus the is excited about some of those nicer options after driving such a boring vehicle for years. Plus we get the beast engine.

Thanks for these thoughts. Yes the Genesis cars are excellent. But the Stinger has the attitude! Whole different personality.

I've found several used ones with around 15,000 miles a few hours' drive away for around $35k. That's a lot less than $52k new. My wife watched all the reviews I sent her and wants to test drive next week. If the bug gets her we'll try to get a new one for around $45k; if they won't do that I'm driving a few hours to pick up this:

Lots of IFs there, and I'm not in a rush, we could wait a year and be happy. We'll see.

Yeah, the market is all over the place on these, I can't find many used ones around me but I HAVE seen like $9000 off on the GT2 sitting at Costco, so the incentives are definitely out there! It will pay off to be patient, like I need to with the stupid mirror blinker, LOL.

Edit: A search on Cars.com shows GT2's with VERY low mileage (under 10k) for ~$36k, that would be the best bet to get the huge depreciation out of the way up front unless you could get a new one for low $40's...

Thanks Jeff,

You about killed me today. I found out the dealership in my area had a Stinger GTS at a very good price. I missed it by hours. They said the guy traded in his "old" for it:

https://www.ricartkia.com/VehicleDetails/new-2019-Kia-Stinger-GTS-Groveport-OH/3496524753

I was willing to live with the sole color for that model. I wanted it because it came with a LSD like the RWD models and has an additional driving mode where you can disengage the front drivetrain unlike the other trims with AWD.

BEAUTIFUL man. Tell me everything...how much off MSRP did you get? Favorite features? Have you tried launch control yet? It's out of control how good this car is.

Wasn't I right in my desire for this car???

Looking back, if we needed a sedan this would be a no brainer. My wife still talks about how nice it was. However the CX-9 was the best choice for us and she's super happy. In fact I'm about to update that thread with my first mod....

How do the two compare? Always been a fan of the G8, and have been looking at the cop car Caprice (SS) as a possible "family sedan."
