UPDATE
I've spent a few hours watching Matt Maran, Straight Pipes, Demuro and a few other video reviewers on this car. I'm having some deja vu back to 2013-2014 when the best car that most normal people didn't know about but reviewers loved and bought one - the Fiesta ST - came out. Comments and reviews of the Stinger are very similar though it's in a different genre. Pretty much every says the same thing about how great the car is. Even Doug Demuro who is usually very mean and critical said 99% positive things about it...in fact it was dangerously near the very top of his comprehensive all-car "Doug score" chart which I think bothered him as he wrapped up the review.
I found one used in Florida with 10k..."corporate vehicle", $52k sticker price, selling for $34k. Called them and talked to a guy, no strange fees other than about $2k more in dealer fees and delivery fees plus tax tag and title. Says there's nothing wrong with it but it's just too good to be true and I'm not buying a car sign unseen. I'm gonna see how serious my wife is about doing this sooner instead of later and if the dealer will give me the new one for somewhere in the mid 40s I might go for it. That's a big drop so I doubt they will do it but like I always do when it comes to cars I approach it objectively and walk away if I don't get what I ask for. I can't pay $52k for a new one when a barely used one is going for $34k. Maybe I'd meet in the middle, I doubt they'll do that but that will be my litmus test...that and my wife's experience with the car.
If not now, at some point later this will be at the very top of my list for our next 10-year car. I'll say this in closing, I did almost no research and drove the car first, then spent a ton of time researching. Everything the research said couldn't compare me for how nice the car is in person - that's a good sign.
EDIT
I'll add one other thought, I hopped on the
Stinger forums and folks asre able to get the GT2 for 5-11% off the MSRP. One guy got the $52k model for $40k flat plus fees. If my dealership will do that I might be driving one home this weekend.
Probably not though, my life is way to conservative and slow for something like that to ever happen.
