thanks for posting this Russ...

I'm really glad to see we have someone here on the forum with some real world experience and knowledge to share with the rest of us...

I thought it was interesting which was brought up a few times as to how Razorlab was able to achieve ~240whp/305wtq on a "stock turbo" running e45....
He wasnt on a dyno. IT was a V-dyno. This turbo is maxed damn near from the factory. If its that easy to get 240whp with a CATTED DP then why isnt everyone else hitting these numbers with E mixes?

Couldn't have said it better! Thanks Russ, really look forward to seeing the DHM tunes :)

A very good point you make...Those folks referencing numbers through V-dyno's should not be taken seriously...thanks!
Exactly, see my signature for a difference in Dynojet and v-dyno....exact same tune, setup and weather.

Yeah, that is quite a difference....Although I can see where V-dyno's could be somewhat useful for a quick comparative / relative analysis of data ...seems as if many still have a tendency to get caught up in their absolute numbers...

I am looking for something interesting I read the other day but did not bookmark it and have not found again. The TVC can kick in on the dyno if the car is not lined up really well and change the results quite a bit. I do not recall all that was posted but it made sense at the time I read it.

If I find it again I will post if for sure!

People that only read only what they want only hurt them selves and sway others not to look at the whole picture. Yea someone posting some VD chart just to show a number is not really that big of a deal. What im talking about is taking a bone stock car in the same weather, same couple hours and flashing different maps on a stock car to show the difference. VD is a tool for back to back comparison you are responsible for the output. Everything you read on the internet should be taken a whole and analyzed for your self.

Here is the chart i said i would post yesterday.

here are some other cars that i have tune via VD and you can not take them serious if you want.

This evo is 100% stock with a TBE, manual boost controller and supporting fuel mods for the e85 i tuned it on. Still holds the record for evo 8 with e85 and only a TBE

Here is another car 19sec in is the VD chart i think the 140 mph passes prove the VD numbers were not to far off....

VD is a tool just a tool not for some one to brag about numbers.

Thank you

Russ

thanks for clarifying Russ....

So I think the take away is you've shown that using VD can be useful as a tuning tool when doing "comparative" tuning and data analysis as long as environmental conditions are kept fairly constant ...However much like various dyno results, referencing and focusing primarily on an "absolute" number really isn't as relevant?

any that is referencing "absolute" numbers from ANY dyno should no that they are just tools for tuning. 99% of us are all within 40 hp of each other so really we should be enjoying our cars. We were not gifted with turbos that have alot of head room. High quality oxygenated fuels, all the bolts on we could hope for and having someone tune it that it qualified for that job will make a car that makes well over stock power and something very fun to drive.

Also there are reasons why i took weeks to dial in my 93 and e40 tunes then to find a day were i had time to flash them all through and make good consistent pulls on the same road with out any other varying temps or air quality.

hey btw...This 1st chart you posted does show a very nice consistent gains made across most of the power band..very nice!
Thank you! no reason it should not be decently even at each RPM increment. each map has an increase in boost, timing and then a fuel change with more boost and timing. The only ones not are my two custom tunes were i slowed spool down just a little to get the tires to hook in 3rd and 4th. Hopefully soon i can grab some Vp101 and get on a chassis dyno and then i will calibrate my VD to that dyno like i have done in the past. that way i have a tool now that is close to producing number that a similar to the chassis dyno i use normally. This is done for the EVO's i tune now but have not had a chance to do this for the Fiestas. Dynos are tools and a tool is only as good as the user slapping it around!

Also I know some folks had stated the FiST's turbo's airflow potential is pretty much "maxed" out even at stock tune levels where max boost for stock is 19~20psi...However, I see your boost peaks @ ~28psi @2400rpm and holds to ~3800rpm...And jeez...even at 5000rpm your boost is still +20psi? Looks like you really milked that stock turbo for all it was willing to produce!

Razor's signature said 240hp, not WHP.... he made around 210-220 WHP in vdyno (at 4200 rpm)
